Cake For Independence Day

America Flag Themed Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour 
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder 
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt 
  • 1 cup granulated sugar 
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened 
  • 3 large eggs 
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 
  • 3/4 cup milk 
  • Green and white food coloring 
  • Whipped cream or buttercream frosting 
  • Edible star-shaped decorations (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. 
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. 
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract. 
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined. 
  6. Divide the batter into two equal portions. Add food coloring (eg. blue for United States) to one portion and mix until you achieve the desired shade of color.
  7. Pour the colored batter into one of the prepared cake pans, and the white batter into the other. Smooth the tops with a spatula. 
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean. 
  9. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. 
  10. Once the cakes are completely cooled, place the white cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top. 
  11. Carefully place the colored cake layer on top of the white layer. Frost the entire cake with whipped cream or buttercream frosting, covering the sides and top. 
  12. Use edible (eg. star-shaped for united states) decorations to create the creative design on the top of the cake. 
  13. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for a couple of hours before serving to allow the frosting to set.
  14. Slice and serve this delightful Flag Cake to celebrate Independence Day.
